Introduction
Greetings USED KARMA readers - and those of you who access this column through John Derrickson's PsyPlan(tm) site (www.psyplan.com)! As I write this on the new moon in Virgo we are approaching the last quarter of 1999. The coming year is mistakenly referred to in popular culture as "the Millennium" but is in fact the last year of the twentieth century. The year 2001 starts the new Millennium (as in 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke.) The last quarter of this penultimate year of the 20th century contains interesting possibilities, as solar/planetary energies shifted dramatically on September 21.
Solar Flares
Had you been feeling extremely tired from June through late September? And did you suddenly start feeling more focused and energetic in mid-September as the Fall Equinox on the 21st approached? The reason is that there was tremendous solar flare activity going on during this period. In fact, this period marked the most intense period of solar flare activity ever observed by scientists since records have been kept on this sort of thing. Our scientists fail to grasp the significance of the relationship between the Earth and the Sun, and the extent to which the two are physically connected. Since part of the Earth's core is physically resident within the Sun, solar flares (explosions of heated gases on the Sun's surface) have a direct electrical effect on the Earth's morphogenetic field, and on our individual morphogenetic fields as well. Since the human nervous system is an electro-chemical system (chemicals called neurotransmitters initiate electrical sparks that jump gaps in our nerves that transmit information along neuronal pathways) human beings are very susceptible to changes in electrical frequency. This is why the air feels strange after an electrical storm (and smells of ozone). This is also why people who live too close to electrical generating plants become sick and develop cancers and bizarre nervous system disorders.
The recent intense solar flare activity electrically altered our environment, affecting our nervous systems and making us feel fatigued and disoriented. Many people developed sleeping problems, or suddenly needed more sleep than usual, or weren't feeling rested as a result of the sleep they were getting. These effects were particularly noticeable to individuals that are particularly sensitive to energy, such as channels, healers, psychics and other individuals working with multidimensional energies.
I don't know how I would have survived this period if I hadn't lost my day job at the end of June. If I had had to undergo this intense solar flare period while working fulltime the exhaustion might have landed me in the hospital. Because I was unemployed, my schedule was sufficiently flexible to allow me to be able to alter my sleeping habits to suit my individual needs. I found myself taking frequent afternoon naps, especially during the months of July and August. Ironically enough, work materialized for me a week before the Fall Equinox. I believe the timing of this period of unemployment was divinely given so I would not be gravely injured by the demands of a busy employment schedule during a period of heightened electrical activity, which for me would surely have led to debilitating and possibly health-threatening fatigue.
Other effects of this increased solar flare activity included the earthquakes in Turkey and Greece, and the enormous category 5 hurricane that hit the eastern seaboard and caused major devastation everywhere it went. Let's take the earthquakes first. The first Turkish earthquake in August caused far more devastation and loss of life than it should have due to widespread corruption in the Turkish government that enabled dishonest building contractors to get away with constructing structures that did not meet government safety codes. The death, destruction and devastation will be felt in Turkey for years to come. This is not the sort of mess that can be cleaned up in a few weeks and then life goes back to normal. The damage will take years to repair, and in the meantime the Turkish government is left with a massive refugee problem due to the hundreds of thousands of people that were rendered homeless as a result of the disaster.
A few weeks after the massive earthquake in Turkey there was another, seismologically unrelated earthquake in Greece, followed soon after by another aftershock earthquake in Turkey. Greece and Turkey have been bitter enemies for hundreds of years, yet the Greeks and the Turks are ethnically very similar. (Their food is similar, their music is similar. One could say that the major difference between them is the fact that the Turks make rugs and the Greeks make retsina.) Thus this conflict is similar to the conflicts between the Arabs and the Jews (two cultures so closely related that they trace their ancestry back to a common patriarchal ancestor, Abraham), the Catholics and the Protestants in Ireland, and the entire mess in the Balkans (where the Serbs, Croats and Albanians share nearly identical food and music). In other words, all these related cultures have been fighting for centuries over meaningless differences.
When the earthquake occurred in Greece, teams of Turkish earthquake rescue teams were dispatched to Greece to help calm survivors and clean up the mess. Because of the suffering and devastation the Turks had so recently experienced, the Turkish earthquake rescue workers had enormous sympathy and compassion for their historical enemies the Greeks. How ironic that it took a natural disaster for Turks and Greeks to realize that we're all human beings and we all need to have compassion for one another and provide assistance. How quickly centuries of carefully nurtured ethnic hatreds dissolved in the fact of common human suffering.
These kinds of earth changes and disasters will continue to plague the Earth in increasing numbers over the next few years unless all of humanity undergoes a consciousness shift toward greater love, acceptance and compassion. If we continue to nurture irrational hatreds and ancient prejudices we will continue to suffer unprecedented suffering and devastation. There is simply no other way for the Earth to cleanse itself of the negative energy being infused into its morphogenetic field by human psychosis and negativity.
More evidence of increased solar flare activity was seen in the amazing category 5 hurricane that hit the east coast in mid-September. One news report described the storm as twice the size of Florida! Storms involve the elements of earth, air and water. Earth symbolizes the material plane, air symbolizes the mental plane and water the emotional plane of human existence. Thus storms refocus our energies on the physical, mental and emotional planes. They move energy that has been stuck and allow the Earth and the creatures inhabiting her to cleanse, rebuild and renew.
The hurricane that pounded the eastern seaboard coast, Hurricane Floyd, disrupted travel throughout the entire state of Florida - the entire state! Over two and a half million residents were instructed to flee their homes and go inland. The magnitude of this storm and the destruction it left in its wake was unprecedented - and Biblically prophesized. The fact that Floyd so ravaged so much of the South (Florida, South Carolina) is highly significant in terms of restructuring physical, mental and emotional energies, because these are places where God's precepts to love one another have been repeatedly ignored.
Although white supremacy is the law of the entire planet (which is why the Washington Monument is a giant white phallic symbol - because Washington, D.C. is the headquarters of the global white supremacy conspiracy), some places are more egregiously racist and white supremacist than others. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina are four such places. These are states where nonwhite people (this includes Jews) have been harassed, discriminated against, abused and cheated for generations.
Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina are places where the earth, air and water are holding the negative energy of generations of hatred and destruction, which in turn affects them negatively. The buildup has become so intense that the elements must cleanse themselves, and the people must be cleansed accordingly. As with the earthquakes in Greece and Turkey, the racists and white supremacists will not learn the law of universal love and oneness until their hearts learn compassion through trauma, suffering and devastation. The rest of the world, viewing relentless media images of the ravages of nature, is being vicariously chastened to respect our natural environment as a living being instead of taking it for granted as a collection of commodities to be exploited.
What's Next?
The foregoing section was by way of introduction to explain how we are likely to finish out the calendar year. Because the solar flare activity was causing electrical disturbances affecting our energy levels and our moods, the change was almost immediately noticeable when the solar flares subsided on September 21. Because the three-month period of sunspot (there - I finally found another word for it) intensity was so draining, when things returned to a facsimile of normal on the 21st we immediately began feeling stronger, happier and more focused. The reason I say "facsimile of normal" is because the next three months are going to be very different from the three months that preceded the extreme sunspots.
The sunspots heralded some intense natural disaster activity. Expect 1999 to be the worst hurricane season on record. The storms are providing necessary cleansing of people's polluted psyches and deeply held prejudices and tribal hatreds. The only way this can truly succeed is to tear down the entire societal structure. The storms will initiate this process as follows.
The global economy is an organism of which individual country's economies are but parts. Problems in one part of the organism affect the functioning of the entire being. When the Asian economic crises happened it took western economies along with it. Diminished wealth in Asia led to diminished trade with the west, thus diminishing wealth in the west. The insurance industry has not been healthy for several years now, which is why insurance companies have been acquiring and/or nurturing brokerage businesses throughout the 1990s. How can such an industry survive unprecedented destruction by natural disasters (storms, earthquakes, tidal waves, forest fires, etc.)? The answer is that it can't. So what's the scenario?
The earth changes will bankrupt the insurance industry. This will collapse the banking system. Although greedy multinational corporations have been trying for years to destroy the regulatory mechanisms that kept them separate (and succeeding as of late), the fact is that the banking industry and the insurance industry have been illegally in bed together for years. So when the insurers run out of money, the banks are sure to follow.
I explained this scenario several years ago to an acquaintance. This young man had an MBA, was in his mid- to late twenties and worked for a large bank. When I explained the insurance-banking connection this young man said that the insurance industry could never collapse the banking system because any smart banker knows better than to have anything to do with the insurance industry. "Exactly right," was my reply. "And how many smart bankers are there?" The young man regarded me with horror and gasped "Oh my God, you're right! The insurance industry could collapse the banking system!"
Consider the implications of this. Money is, after all, an abstraction, a symbol, a stand-in for items of value. If money were to suddenly disappear, people would be forced to return to a barter system where they traded the results of their own efforts. People who have been supporting themselves through ordering others around and/or through investments will suddenly have no way to support themselves. People who have survival skills - farmers, tradesmen, healers - will be the leaders in the new economy. The balance of power will be instantly shifted.
Conclusion
The last quarter of this year will be characterized by millions of people starting to see things more clearly, to ask questions of the power structure and to organize for a more fair and just society. As always, the forces of greed and destruction will reach out to crush them. But as the forces of greed and destruction start losing their goodies through global economic collapse, new leaders will emerge creating new societal structures of freedom and equality of opportunity. This will be a gradual process over the next few decades, but the inevitable signs will start manifesting in the next few months, so be on the lookout!
