Fighting For Our Rights

Introduction

Greetings USED KARMA readers!  Increasingly the global stage is being set for a battle between the forces of freedom and the purveyors of censorship and oppression.  Other countries are delaying important actions until after the U.S. elections in November.  It does not take a genius to figure out that the U.S. Government has not told us everything that is going on in Iraq.  Given the number of equally repressive regimes around the world, the official Government propaganda on this subject would be humorous, were it not so frightening.  The Clinton Administration's opportunism in spinning terrorist attacks into a vehicle for stuffing totalitarian and fascistic anti-terrorism down our throats is as repulsive as it is frightening.

The good news is that the freedom fighters are marshaling their forces in cyberspace and elsewhere.  Expect a major fight in coming months over such issues as censorship, telecommunications access, HDTV regulation, encryption and other similar issues.  We as individuals must not only take responsibility for becoming and remaining informed on these issues, but we must take it upon ourselves to join together with others of like mind to make our viewpoint heard.

Some Thoughts on Revolutions Past

It was recently pointed out to me by a Brooklyn scholar of Tibetan lore that the French Revolution was much more democratic than the American Revolution.  This simple observation has very important implications for modern times.  In eighteenth-century France it was the ordinary people who stormed the Bastille and removed their insensitive and self-centered leaders from power.  In the United States it was the wealthy merchants and landowners who seized power from the British.  This has some interesting implications.

Given the thoroughly atrocious job American educators do vis-à-vis teaching American history, most Americans are simply not aware that only wealthy people in this country owned slaves.  The average person then was very much like the average person now -- hard-working, sincere, and thoroughly exploited by the rich.  This is why, during the Civil War, the residents of the western part of the state of Virginia seceded from Virginia and fought with the Union, thus giving rise to the state of West Virginia.  The  West Virginians were ordinary people who could never in a million years afford slaves.   They were determined not to lose their lives fighting for the right of wealthy, uncaring people to savagely exploit another race.  Yet the average American does not even know that West Virginia is a separate state, much less why.  (This is why many West Virginians arm themselves with bumper stickers and tee shirts reading “West (BY GOD!) Virginia.”)

The most fascinating and unusual result of a revolution led by wealthy oppressors of humanity was the Bill of Rights.  The United States of America is unique in the world in having a such a document.  The reason it is there is because it was drafted by people who, by and large, were so adept at exploiting others that they knew exactly how to defend and articulate their own rights.  Hungry people, such as those responsible for the French, Mexican and Russian revolutions, are focused on more primal concerns than on such abstractions as free speech, due process and effective representation of counsel.  These intellectual luxuries are the products of a full stomach, good clothes and a warm hearth.

Today, several generations of Americans, as well as recent immigrants, understand and value the concepts embodied in the Bill of Rights.  The Clinton Administration's attempts to use terrorist threats as an excuse for draconian legislation designed to quash free speech and civil liberties espouses a philosophy that will engender  a police state -- the very thing millions of immigrants came here to leave behind.  The Administration's hard-sell tactic of relinquishing cherished liberties in exchange for  “security” is a crock of monkey turds.  If we as Americans sacrifice any of our civil liberties with the expectation that the Government will protect us from terrorist activity we will be hammering nails into our own coffins.  While the FBI and other Government organizations are quite adept at detecting terrorist activity and deflecting it from our shores, the fact remains that as long as there are desperate, oppressed peoples on this planet, there is no place on the globe that is truly safe.  Government promises of “security” are invalid on their face.  No one can make this guarantee.

While recent terrorist attacks on American shores are disturbing, they are also shocking Americans into understanding what people in places like Israel, Lebanon, Syria, France, Spain, Italy, England and Ireland (to name a few) have been living with for years.  The solution to this problem does not lie in manufacturing and selling more weapons.  It lies in understanding the roots of political problems and fairly addressing the needs of those on this planet who have been unbearably exploited, tortured and repressed.  It is important for all of us to pay close attention to these issues, as they will command increasing prominence in our lives over the next few years.

The interesting thing about the Internet is that it provides a vehicle for global organization and activism to address these concerns.  Provided, of course, that the Internet remains free and uncensored, and further provided that encryption technologies remain available to residents of oppressed countries so they can get their stories out to the rest of the world without being killed in reprisal for telling the truth.

What About Bill Clinton?

With the election coming up next month, numerous people have been asking my opinion on Bill Clinton.  The coming election has been rightfully characterized by such luminaries as The Nation magazine and Michael Moore as “the evil of two lessers.”  I find myself in sympathy with NOW President Patricia Ireland's comment that she will hold her nose as she casts her vote for Bill Clinton, but she will not lift a finger to campaign for him.  Despite the fact that Clinton's record on cyberspace, the environment and social welfare is atrocious, the fate of the average American would be far worse under a Dole administration.  At least Clinton tries to pretend he is not in the pocket of Big Business.  Bob Dole, on the other hand, practically advertises the extent to which his votes can be bought and sold.

Nonetheless, I have no illusions about the depths to which Bill Clinton will sink to promulgate his political agendas.   An interesting item in Doug Moench's The Big Book of Conspiracies  (Factoid Book imprint of Paradox Press, New York 1995) says that three of the four ATF agents that lost their lives in the Waco fiasco were former Arkansas state troopers who had been Clinton bodyguards.  It is also interesting to note that former Commerce Secretary Ron Brown was about to be indicted on ethical violations before he met his demise in a plane crash in Croatia.  Somehow this does not feel like a coincidence.  In addition, Bill and Hillary Clinton are so secretive about their personal activities that Secret Service agents are no longer allowed in the White House Presidential living quarters.  Isn't it interesting that a President who cavalierly promotes legislation designed to deprive Americans of their constitutionally-protected privacy rights so jealously guards his own?

Nonetheless, I find cause for hope.  Americans have had their fill of the hatred, cruelty and condemnation of the Gringrich Republicans, whose basic agenda is to kill the poor, the elderly and the disabled, cut taxes for the rich and raise taxes on the rest of us.  The numismatic Christians' desire to use the Republican party as a vehicle to force their sexually and morally repressed value system on the rest of us will simply not be tolerated by the American public.  Ross Perot is both mentally deranged and a bully.  Americans do not want to give power to this dictatorial autocrat.  Ralph Nader's candidacy is a joke, and spending a lifetime doing good works in public advocacy does not necessarily qualify a person for the pressures and complexities of governing at the national level.

Thus, I predict Bill Clinton will win by a landslide.  I also believe that he will remember, in his second term, that he is a double agent.  Although he has been cheerfully serving the forces of darkness and sucking up to the conservative forces in this country that finance giant propaganda machines, the freedom from re-election politicking will free him up to remember his real mission.  I believe that Clinton will flip to the light in his second term and endeavor to undo the errors of his first four years.

It is very significant in this regard to note that Bill Clinton is currently undergoing his Chiron return.  Chiron is the asteroid of healing.  When Chiron returns to the place in the heavens where it was during an individual's birth, it marks a critical life passage.  Chiron return is about integrating and handling power in a spiritual way.  Although Bill Clinton has already undergone the other two critical life passages (Saturn return  and Uranus opposition) it is clear from his last few years in power that he did not properly integrate the lessons of those two powerful transits.  Chiron return is an individual's last chance to honor divine law and work toward serving the light in a meaningful way.

Just because a person has acquired wealth/and or power by age 50 does not mean s/he has received the lessons those transits require.  If a person has not learned their lessons by Chiron return, then Chiron will kick the daylights out of them.  This usually manifests as the disappearance of trusted friends and advisors, leaving the individual with only sycophants and opportunists in their midst.  Clearly this has already happened to Bill Clinton.  Clinton's closest advisors, such as David Gergen, Webster Hubbell, Vincent Foster, Bernard Nussbaum, Ron Brown, Dee Dee Myers and Dick Morris have all left the scene.  Mack McLarty is still in the White House, but is serving in a lesser capacity than the Chief of Staff position he previously held.  David Hale, Jim Guy Tucker, Susan McDougal and James McDougal are convicted felons.  So who is left to advise and speak for him?  Dim lights such as George Stephanopoulos, a shameless sycophant and skilled liar, and Susan Thomases, who may well go to jail for her perjury on the First Lady's behalf.

Clearly Bill Clinton is undergoing a personally trying time that is entirely of his own making.  People who did not blindly agree with his positions and those of his tarnished wife were chastised as “disloyal” and subsequently fired or forced out.  Yet real loyalty has nothing to do with mindlessly rubber-stamping your bosses' views -- it has to do with providing advice that is sensible and well-intentioned.  Nevertheless, I believe there is a chord in Clinton's Leonine soul that is struggling to receive The Creator's truth.  His Lion's ego wants to go down in history as a great president and world leader.  The best way to be remembered this way is to serve Divine Will and humanity.  We can only hope that the forces of  ego and personal ambition that have forged Bill Clinton will operate now to put him on the right path.  I pray for this result daily, and recommend all of you do the same. .  With Pluto firmly in Sagittarius the truth becomes plainer and plainer.  We can only hope that our elected leaders will begin to see God's truth and honor it.
