Sacred Energies Awaken

Introduction

An ancient Chinese curse says “May you live in interesting times.”  Indeed, we are all being so cursed in the 1996 cycle, especially this month.  The Sun enters Aries on March 21, heralding the beginning of the solar year and following on the heels of the Moon's entry in Pisces on the 19th.  Aries, the start of the Zodiac, is the alpha and Pisces, the end of the Zodiac, is the omega.  Thus this month is a time to meditate on endings and beginnings.  The seeds of the new are present in the ashes of the old, so this month is a good time to reflect on your accomplishments during the last solar year and to crystallize your plans for the upcoming one.

More About Pluto in Sagittarius

The signs of Pluto the warrior's collaboration with the Sagittarian centaur continue to abound.  The most noteworthy American news item in illustration of this point is the recent tragedy surrounding the multi-millionaire chemical heir John DuPont.  Mr. DuPont had been exhibiting signs of mental illness for years.  His friends, employees and associates were well-aware that something was seriously wrong with the eccentric playboy, yet nobody took any steps to get help for the man.  Why?  Because they did not care about him?  Far from it -- these people cared a great deal about John DuPont, who was a generous and caring being when lucid.  No, the reason everybody kept quiet was because they feared losing employment and financial support from their patron and employer.  The amateur wrestling community, which was heavily financed by John DuPont, knew about his odd and erratic behavior, but was afraid of losing its financing by exposing the truth about their patron's obviously deteriorating mental health.  The result of this secrecy and cover-up was the death of one of America's finest athletes, who was summarily executed in front of his loving wife.

The most tragic part of this surreal debacle was the fact that it could have been prevented.  If anyone within John DuPont's social sphere had been courageous enough to tell the truth about the man's mental and emotional illness, he might have received appropriate help.  With proper diagnosis and treatment, Mr. DuPont may have been able to function if not normally, then at least well enough to have kept his homicidal impulses in check.  Now one man is dead, one man's life is ruined and an entire sport that relied heavily on the accused man's financial support and leadership is in shock and disarray.

This highlights an important social problem in America today and throughout the world.  Although numerous state, local and federal statutes abound to protect whistleblowers, the sad reality is that most people who disclose the truth about an employer's unethical and/or illegal practices will lose their jobs, and possibly their careers and livelihoods.  Most Americans believe, wrongly, that they must do illegal and unethical things required by their employers in order to put food on their tables.  They have not been happy about these moral sacrifices, but believe they are compelled by the survival imperative to make moral and ethical compromises in the workplace.

Since becoming at attorney, I have been fired more than once for refusing to do unethical and illegal things.  My employment has been interrupted for months at a time due to these incidents, and my material well-being has been adversely affected.  I have refused to conform to what was expected of me in the corporate environment if such conformity ran contrary to my personal beliefs.  Yet, these deeply-held spiritual and religious beliefs have compelled me to take this course of action again and again, regardless of the severity the personal consequences.  I have always believed that financial suffering is preferable to moral agony.  Most people think me crazy or (even worse) a fool for what they perceive as the choice of abstract ideals over material reality.  Yet our ideals define who we are.  Our core values are our core beings.  If we sell out our values to earn wages in the workplace, then what distinguishes us from prostitutes who sell sexual favors for money?

Another striking example of Sagittarius' effect on Pluto concerns secrecy in medical research.  Last month a top official with the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Steven A. Rosenberg, wrote in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine that secrecy in medical research is not only hindering progress in his own field, cancer research, but is quite possibly endangering some patients' lives.  Prior to the publication of Dr. Rosenberg's article, the head of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, had issued a policy restricting public access to the information discussed at a meeting that was intended to foster “greater cooperation between industry and the Government” in strategies for developing and testing AIDS vaccines.  When Dr. Rosenberg's article came out, Dr. Fauci did an abrupt about-face and withdrew the policy restricting the public's access to this information.  It is indeed interesting that an article critical of secrecy increased the public's access to information regarding the planet's most deadly and burgeoning disease epidemic.

Likewise, the horrible ferry disaster in the Philippines last month that killed and injured dozens of people, many of whom were children, is another example of the consequences of hidden truth being revealed.  This particular ferry had been inspected one week before the accident and certified as unfit for public transportation.  Nevertheless, the greedy ferry owners operated it anyway.  In addition, the ferry's passenger log said that 59 people were aboard the ferry, when in fact there were over 200 passengers when the boat went down.  Death and mayhem, especially of children, is a terrible price to pay for concealing the truth.

Pluto is Sagittarius forces us to deal with our own personal truths as well as societal truths.  Watch for people around the globe to stand up in increasing numbers for their personal ethical and moral beliefs, despite the threat of negative material and social consequences.  Why?  Because Pluto in Sagittarius enables us to understand that subordination to truth is the only way to achieve real personal and societal freedom.  People are no longer willing to be material and moral slaves to uncaring, greedy and rapacious employers.  The social fabric of this planet is coming apart and reforming.  A major part of this planetary redesign will be initiated this month as Mars goes into Aries and conjuncts the Sun.

Mars in Aries Conjunct the Sun

Mars enters Aries on March 25 and will remain there until May 3.  The Sun enters Aries on March 21 and will remain there until April 20.  Mars will be conjunct (within ten degrees of) the Sun from  March 11 through April 20.  Why is this important?

Mars and the Sun are both powerful, masculine planets.  (Actually the Sun is a star, but astrologers pretend it is a planet.)  Aries is a masculine sign.  In addition, Mars rules Aries.  A sign's planetary ruler has attributes in common with that sign.  Planetary conjunctions are about power, energy and emphasis.  Aries is about inspiration, courage, enthusiasm, originality and independence.  Aries is also about being impatient, aggressive, headstrong, selfish and impulsive.  The Sun symbolizes the eternal self, and is about creativity, vitality, leadership, confidence and generosity.  It is also about arrogance, cruelty, conceit, pomposity and aggression.  Mars symbolizes spirit held down by matter.  (Perhaps this is why Mars is so powerfully associated with sex.)  Mars is also about desire, energy, originality, initiative and activity, as well as arrogance, aggression, and being headstrong, selfish and impulsive.

Thus a Mars-Sun conjunction in Aries is a very energetic and active time.  It is also a very powerful and energetic time (since conjunctions are about power and energy).  The power of this transit can be put to good use or bad use, but either way there is a tremendous amount of energy available.  In addition, this is a very creative influence, because Mars and Aries are about originality and independence.  This influence favors pioneering and leadership.  With Uranus in Aquarius, this conjunction further enhances the potential to give birth to new ideas and inventions, especially in science and mathematics.  New methodologies will be developed under this influence, along with social and scientific inventions of all kinds.  New political, social and business leaders will emerge during this time, especially in places where there is military conflict and other substantial political and social unrest and injustice

Because Mars is the god of war, this conjunction can also lead to military conflicts and outbreaks of fighting where none existed previously.  However, this influence also favors athletic events of all kinds, as well as sex and romance.  Since most

of this conjunction occurs during the first month of spring, it is extremely favorable for love and romance.  If you have your eye on someone, or are looking to meet someone, this is the time to make your move.

A Mars-Sun conjunction is a very energetic influence no matter what sign it occurs in.  However, since Aries is the most energetic sign of the Zodiac, a Mars-Sun conjunction in Aries can be an overwhelmingly energetic time.  You can use the power of these energies either positively or negatively, so be on your guard.  If you have been planning to start an exercise program to remove some of those extra pounds that crept on during the cold winter months, this transit is an excellent time to start one.  You will not only have more energy, but you will have more enthusiasm for such an undertaking.  After all, a lack of enthusiasm is the reason most people will abandon an exercise program, no matter how motivated they are to firm up and slim down.

People will be more enthusiastic and energetic than usual during this transit.  They will also be more self-centered, combative and aggressive.  Be very careful when driving.  You may want to drive more defensively than usual, because people will be acting like maniacs behind the wheel.  It is probably a good idea to stay away from firearms, knives and weapons of all sorts during this influence, unless you are highly skilled in their use and plan to use them for purely recreational purposes.  This is a great time to engage in contact sports such as boxing, wrestling and the martial arts.  If you have been thinking of studying any of these disciplines, this influence is an excellent time to begin such endeavors.

Our planet has numerous sacred energy centers that were shut down thousands of years ago by enlightened shamans and magicians.  Why would enlightened people shut down sacred planetary energy centers?  These ancient ones, being extremely psychic, were able to foresee the rise of barbaric cultures that would misuse the sacred energies to the point of possible planetary destruction.  For this reason, the ancient wise beings shut down these energy centers until such time as all of humanity is ready to throw off the veils of ignorance that result in lust for material wealth and sensual pleasure at the expense of spiritual growth and intellectual awareness.

As Matthew Fox points out in his book The Coming of the Cosmic Christ, the second coming of Christ has absolutely nothing to do with the man Jesus of Nazareth.  Jesus was “the Christ” because Jesus was imbued with the Christ spirit of unconditional love and acceptance.  When Jesus was baptized (an ancient pagan ritual) by his first cousin, John the Baptist, Jesus experienced an epiphany.  A voice was heard out of the sky exclaiming love and pride for Jesus, and Jesus was infused with a golden light that was visible to all those present.  This golden light is the physical manifestation of the Christ spirit of unconditional love and acceptance.  The Biblical prophecy of the second coming of Christ speaks of the awakening of the golden light of the Christ spirit in the cells of human beings.  This golden light will awaken our sleeping souls to the awareness of the power of unconditional love and acceptance.

How will this awakening occur?  When the sacred planetary energy centers are reopened, people will have the opportunity to receive this awakening in their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.  Those who choose to receive this energy will be “saved,” while those who choose to ignore it will perish in the cataclysms and natural disasters that are already beginning to sweep the planet as never before (earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, tidal waves, volcanic eruptions, etc.)  The Mars-Sun conjunction that begins this month will initiate and facilitate the reopening of the Earth's sacred energy centers.  People will feel this awakening, and use it for transformation (Pluto) through truth (Sagittarius).

Use the energies of the Mars-Sun conjunction in Aries wisely.  Make love, not war!
